  • Popular Aloo Tikki Burger Recipe
August 7, 2017

Aloo Tikki Burgers are extremely popular veg burgers between all ages of people, especially kids. But as a parent, we try to keep our children away from popular McDonald’s aloo tikki burger or veg burgers from any fast food joint.

There are two primary reasons we avoid our kids to eat these burgers:

  1. The burger is made of all-purpose flour (Maida) and is not so healthy.
  2. Eating a traditional burger means making your hands dirty with sauces and patties popping out of the burger.

But it’s just not possible to keep saying NO to children. Isn’t it. I have explained this in my article about developing healthy eating habits.

In today’s aloo tikki burger recipe, we will solve both of these problems. You will see the traditional burger recipe in an all-new avatar.

Popular Aloo Tikki Burgers

Aloo Tikki Burger started getting popular, much before McDonald’s entered the Indian market in 1990. After McDonald ventured, Aloo Tikki Burger became their topmost selling burger. For a vegetarian family, this is the most popular veg burger they have been eating for years now.

But today we will change the way you have been eating your burgers for years.

I have curated the list of recommended tools and ingredients for baking. I recommend only tried and tested products that have given satisfactory results in my kitchen.

In a mixing bowl take whole wheat flour and salt. Add activated yeast solution and flax seed powder solution. Start kneading the dough by adding water to it.

Make a soft, smooth and little sticky dough. Add 1 tablespoon of oil and knead the dough again for 5 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rest until doubles in volume.

Once dough doubles in volume, punch it to release the air.

TIP: Be gentle with the dough, else you will end up tearing the gluten structure developed so far.

Now divide the dough into four equal parts (approximately 70 gm each). Dust the surface lightly with flour and roll each dough ball into a circular disc of ½ inch.

  • Hi Sonia, can you suggest any replacement for yeast, as not available at present and the recipe is really tasting.

  • Hi Sonia…. I want to bake this burger for my daughter’s Tiffin…. can I prepare the dough at night and keep it in refrigerator till morning

    • Ritu,

Let the first rise happen at room temperature. Then shape the buns, cover them and keep in the refrigerator for the second rise. In the morning you can bake and pack.
