Notes

  1. Every ingredient in the recipe and its quantity has its own significance. Do not alter them.
  2. This recipe is a tried and tested recipe. Substitute the ingredient/s only at your own risk.
  3. You can adjust the servings of this recipe in the “Recipe Card” and all the ingredients and their measurement will automatically adjust.
  4. To switch between grams and cups, use this “Conversion Chart”.
  5. In Cookies, vegetable oil and butter are not interchangeable. Butter not only provide fat to the cookies but also provide structure. Vegetable oil stays fluid in nature and hence will fail to give structure to your cookies.
  6. Do not knead the dough else it will develop the gluten that will result in soft and chewy cookies.
  7. Do not miss to refrigerate the cookie dough. This will avoid cookies spreading while baking.
  8. I have an Idli maker with 5 trays. To avoid burning off the cookies, I have only used to top 4 trays.
  9. I have used 1 kg of regular cooking salt to make the base in the Idli maker.
  10. The salt can be reused multiple times, hence you can store it.

  • Hi Sonia,

Thanks for this recipe. Can I replace sugar with dates powder? Will it affect the outcome of cookies? I’m thinking to make cookies for my baby.

    • I haven’t experimented the recipe with date powder so that will be difficult for me to suggest the amount. But in case you have even baked with it, feel free to experiment. The difference will be in crunchiness of the cookies and the colour.

      Happy Baking

  • What can I replace baking powder with. I don’t want to use baking powder as making it for my kid. I know changing ingredients will alter the results but is there anyway I can do away with baking powder?

  • Hi Sonia,
Can you please tell me how to bake these cookies using a pressure cooker. This is an amazing recipe. I like to taste it.

  • Hello… Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Can I use sand instead of salt in the base of the cooker?

    • Dhara,

Using salt/sand has a purpose. While baking on gas generally we keep opening the lid to check if its baked or not. When we do so, it drops the temperature inside the vessel. But if you are using salt/sand, it helps to maintain the temperature.

      Happy Baking!

  • Hello Mam, tried these cookies. They arey awesome in taste and with right amount of sweetness as everyone likes in my house. Have shared the pic in group also. Thank you for this recipe.🙂
