When I first worked with the vegan banana bread I was a little scared. I had no prior experience of how to work with a banana mix, but this time I was more confident. Vegan chocolate banana bread with whole wheat flour might feel complex, but trust me this is a very easy recipe to bake at home.
Chocolate Banana Bread is made from mashed bananas. This bread is usually sweet, tender, and moist and cake-like bread that is full of banana flavor.
It doesn’t need kneading like other bread and quite easy & quick to make.
It was first featured in American cookbook and later on got acceptance in other parts of the world. The USA celebrates 23 February as The National Banana Bread Day.
Healthy Chocolate Banana Bread
The Vegan Banana Bread is already a popular recipe among the most recent recipes that I have posted. My experimental recipe on breadsticks and wheat semolina bread are also popular recipes.
A few folks turned back asking for a healthy substitute for sugar in the vegan banana bread. Many people asked if they can add other flavors in the banana bread and which flavor will go best with banana.
The answer is yes and so I thought to experiment with my earlier Vegan banana bread recipe and made a few changes. Finally, I come up with this all-new recipe for Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread.
Vegan chocolate banana bread
There are many recipes for Banana bread around the world and everybody has his/her own variation. I read many recipes and blogs to equip myself better. After the reading was complete, it was time to start experimenting.
I had to test a recipe in the Indian environment before recommending the recipe to my visitors. I wanted my recipe to be healthy, eggless, flavorful, easy to make and can be made in a jiffy.
On my older post, I got a few queries and people asked me for a dairy free dessert recipe and made from whole wheat. So keeping everything in mind, I planned my experiment.
After a few trials and twists, I finally got my no-fail recipe. It was exactly the way I wanted. The vegan banana chocolate bread turned out to be extremely moist and rich with flavors.
To make my Banana Bread healthy, I replaced all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. I didn’t use any dairy product for my recipe. So people who are allergic to dairy products can happily try this and enjoy it.
Refined sugar has been replaced with Jaggery. Instead of using butter, I have used the least amount of flavorless oil. To enhance the taste, I have added cinnamon to it.

In a large mixing bowl, mash all the bananas and make a puree.
Add Oil, Essence, Jaggery powder, Cocoa Powder and cinnamon powder. Mix well.
In a sifter, take wheat flour, Baking powder, Baking soda, and salt. Sieve all the dry ingredients.
Now add slowly and gradually all the dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Mix well using cut and fold method.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 180 °C for 10 minutes. Pour this mixture into a greased bread loaf tin. Bake it in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 25 minutes.
Once done, Take the tin out of the oven and de-mould the bread. Place it on a wired rack to cool completely.
Now slice and serve your healthy vegan chocolate banana bread.

- 3 pcs Banana Medium Size
- 135 gm Whole Wheat Flour
- 50 gm Jaggery Powder
- 80 ml Oil
- 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Cinnamon Powder
- 2 tsp Cocoa Powder Unsweetened
- 1 tsp Vanilla Essence
- 1/4 tsp Salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, mash all the bananas and make puree.
- Add Oil, Essence, Jaggery powder and cinnamon powder. Mix well.
- In a sifter, take wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder and salt. Sieve all the dry ingredients.
- Now add slowly and gradually all the dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Mix well using cut and fold method.
- Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 180 degree Celsius for 10 minutes. Pour this mixture into a greased bread loaf tin.
- Bake it in a preheated oven at 180 degree C for 25 minutes.
- Once done, Take the tin out of the oven and de-mould the bread. Place it on a wired rack to cool completely.
- Now slice and serve your healthy Banana Bread.
